Tony Perkins Open to Dinner at Home of Gay Couple

(TheChristianPost) Conservative Christian leader Tony Perkins of Family Research Council in Washington said he is willing to dine at the home of a married lesbian couple, who expressed their desire to "open up his heart" to the love that is present in their family.

Perkins, who launched a Stand for Marriage petition last week with a group of pastors, commented to CP that "public policy is not made on your family or my family; public policy is based on what`s best for society as a whole. And while we can certainly try to cloud or take the discussion in a different direction, the overwhelming evidence based on the social science is that kids do best with a mom and a dad."

Teen Atheist Who Brought Down Prayer Banner Wins Humanist Award

(TheChristianPost) A teen atheist who brought down a prayer banner that had been displayed in her Rhode Island high school for over half a century will be honored at the American Humanist Association`s 71st Annual Conference next week in New Orleans.

The Rhode Island teen had argued that a banner with religious reference violated the separation of church and state.

"Our Heavenly Father. Grant us each day the desire to do our best. To grow mentally and morally as well as physically. To be kind and helpful to our classmates and teachers. To be honest with ourselves as well as with others. Help us to be good sports and smile when we lose as well as when we win. Teach us the value of true friendship. Help us always to conduct ourselves so as to bring credit to Cranston High School West. Amen."

Senate Approves Controversial Counseling Ban

(PacificJusticeInstitute) The California Senate today voted in favor of a groundbreaking bill designed to prohibit counselors and therapists from telling young people it is possible to change same-sex attractions.

The bill has sparked outrage from individuals who have overcome unwanted same-sex feelings sparked by childhood sexual abuse. It is also being opposed by Pacific Justice Institute, whose attorneys believe its blanket ban on certain types of counseling is unconstitutional. PJI has been working with ministries and professionals in the targeted fields to highlight the plethora of legal problems with the bill.

The bill now moves to the state Assembly for consideration. Brad Dacus, the President of Pacific Justice Institute, commented, “We are one giant step closer to seeing one of the most chilling suppressions of speech yet in the never-ending LGBT push to silence opposition. This is clearly no longer about civil rights—it is about eradicating traditional values. Californians who care about what is happening with SB 1172 need to bombard their Assembly members with phone calls, faxes and in-person visits to urge no votes on SB 1172.”

Video: Planned Parenthood Encourages Woman to Get Sex-Selection Abortion

(LifeNews) The investigative pro-life group Live Action, which has released videos exposing the abuses at the Planned Parenthood abortion business across the country, has released a new video today showing a Planned Parenthood abortion clinic in Austin, Texas encouraging a woman to get a sex-selection abortion.

The video shows a Planned Parenthood staffer encouraging the woman to obtain a late-term abortion because she was purportedly carrying a girl and wanted to have a boy. The video is the first in a new series titled “Gendercide: Sex-Selection in America,” that Live Action tells LifeNews will be exposing the practice of sex-selective abortion in the United States and how Planned Parenthood and the rest of the abortion industry facilitate the selective elimination of baby girls in the womb.

Remembering 2012

(CNSNews) This weekend is Memorial Day Weekend when we remember, reflect and pay homage to all the men and women who have paid the ultimate price for the freedom and prosperity we call the American way of life.

Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day. It came into being after the Civil War as a day set aside to honor the Union war dead, but actually Southern ladies organizations and school children had decorated the graves of the Confederate dead even as the civil war was going on.

I want to remember and pay honor and homage to those who put their lives on the line for this nation from the Revolutionary War to the present day.

CLASS Act Door-to-Door Campaign - Sat., Jun.16

Unless the Lord had been my help,
my soul would soon have settled in silence.

Psalm 94:17

The Watchmen Ministry is taking the CLASS Act petition door-to-door in Chino Hills Saturday, June 16, 2012 . Please consider joining us!

Prior to canvassing a local Chino Hills neighborhood, you’ll receive training on how to collect signatures, SB 48 talking points, and campaign material. If you have already received training by the Watchmen Ministry, you can forego the training session and begin canvassing right away. Canvassing experience is not required nor is Chino Hills residency.

All participants will go out in teams of at least two people. You may already have a partner to accompany you, but if you don’t, you can get one when you arrive.

Everyone should count on driving themselves to their assigned neighborhood. For insurance reasons, we cannot place you with a driver. If you need to drive with someone, you’ll need to make that arrangement on your own. All neighborhoods are close by the church.

The schedule:

2:00 p.m.

  • Meet at Calvary Chapel Chino Hills in room 201 for an update on the campaign and training.
  • Pick up a map of a neighborhood to canvas.
  • Pick up supplies for your team (clip board, petitions, pens, flyers).

3:00 p.m.

  • Canvass your designated neighborhood to collect signatures or leave a flier at the door.

5:00 p.m.

  • Return to the church to turn in petitions and for fellowship.

If you would like to participate, please RSVP to watchmen@calvarycch.org. This will help us prepare enough maps, material, water, etc.

Are Facebook, Apple and Google Censoring Christian Speech?

(CharismaNews) Social media and smartphones are changing the way people communicate—and consume—information. And there’s a clear bias against Christian speech.

“The stakes are continuing to rise on this dilemma: Last week, YouTube, owned by Google, banned a message by orthodox Rabbi Yehuda Levin, labeling it “hate speech” because it criticized the gay rights movement,” said Craig Parshall, NRB senior vice president and general counsel, who heads the John Milton Project for Religious Free Speech. “For similar reasons, YouTube also censored a Christian youth ministry, You can Run but you can’t Hide International … This is a problem that cannot be ignored.”

Facebook has partnered with gay rights advocates to halt content on its social networking site deemed to be “anti-homosexual,” and it is participating in gay-awareness programs, all of which suggest that Christian content critical of homosexuality, same-sex marriage, or similar practices will be at risk of censorship.

Stand for Marriage Petition

(FRC Action) Given that the family consisting of marriage between one man and one woman is the foundation of civil society, I urge Congress and President Obama to uphold and defend the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act (DoMA), which defines marriage for the federal government and affirms the rights of states to protect the institution of marriage. President Obama`s cynical endorsement of same-sex "marriage," along with his failure to do his constitutional duty to enforce and defend federal law in relation to marriage, combined with the plans of some in Congress seeking to overturn DoMA - is a grave threat not only to the well-being of the family, but to the religious liberty of countless Americans who do not wish to be forced to embrace a counterfeit version of marriage.

Faith Groups Fight `Rape` of America`s Religious Soul

(CharismaNews)  If you get the feeling that religious liberty is under attack in America, you`re not alone.

One Christian leader describes what many see as the attack on the right of conscience and religious liberty in America as "the raping of the soul."

"There is a widespread sense, [a] feeling that something unusual, if not unprecedented, is happening with regard to religious liberty in our country," Gerard Bradley, a professor at the University of Notre Dame`s law school, said.

Some say it`s the culmination of a decades-long process designed to eliminate religious people who don`t subscribe to a liberal world view.

The breaking point appears to have come in January, when the Obama administration announced all groups that provide health insurance must include coverage for birth control, the morning after pill and sterilization--even organizations with religious objections.

Christian school better for `personal lifestyle statement`

Despite the protests from nearly two dozen staff members, Dr. J. Robert White of the Georgia Baptist Convention, of which Shorter is a part, says the Board of Trustees is not retreating.

Expert: American Misunderstandings on Religious Liberty Affect Efforts Abroad

(ChristianPost) "The United States is required by law to advance religious freedom in its foreign policy. It has been required to do that since 1998," said Dr. Thomas F. Farr, referring to the International Religious Freedom Act of 1998. "By and large we have done very poorly and there are many reasons for that. One of them is we are so confused about the meaning and reach of religious liberty."

"There has to be a wall institutionally between the government and the church or religious groups," he said. "But many have taken that law of separation to think that it means separating religion from politics, which is precisely the opposite of what the Founding Fathers wanted."

Pastors: Our `New Rainbow Coalition` Supports Traditional Marriage

(ChristianPost) A "new rainbow coalition" made up of influential Christian pastors and leaders gathered on Capitol Hill Thursday afternoon to declare support for the traditional definition of marriage and the Defense of Marriage Act in response to President Obama`s recent announcement that he supports same-sex marriage and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid`s support of repealing DOMA.

Organizer Bishop Harry R. Jackson. Jr., senior pastor of the 3,000-member Hope Christian Church in the Washington, D.C.-area, and other pastors described themselves as a "new rainbow coalition" in reference to the different races, denominations, and political parties they represent as they all come together to support traditional marriage between one man and one woman.

It was announced at the rally that a letter would be sent to President Obama, signed by the leaders gathered, in protest of the administration`s support for same-sex marriage. In addition to that, for Father`s Day Sunday, Jackson stated that about 100,000 churches would be called upon to read statements declaring their support for traditional marriage.

Why gay is not the new black

(OneNewsNow) So, is gay the new black?

There are prominent black leaders who say yes, including Congressman John Lewis, who was active in the early civil rights movement. There are other prominent black leaders who say no, like Timothy F. Johnson, founder and president of The Frederick Douglass Foundation.

For a number of reasons, I concur with Johnson and others who say that gay is not the new black.

1. There is no true comparison between skin color and behavior.
Although gays and lesbians emphasize identity rather than behavior, homosexuality is ultimately defined by romantic attraction and sexual behavior. How can this be equated with the color of someone`s skin?

Christian psychotherapist loses case after gay ‘sting’ operation

(LifeSiteNews) Lesley Pilkington, the Christian psychotherapist who was the subject of a “sting” operation by a homosexualist activist, has lost her appeal to the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.

The BACP has informed her that she will lose her senior accredited status, after she was tricked into providing counseling for unwanted homosexuality at the request of a fake client who was secretly an undercover gay activist.

The BACP also ruled that Strudwick had been a real client, despite his having admitted that he sought Pilkington’s help only as a pretense to entrap her.

Strudwick told the homosexualist news service Pink News, “We want to root out therapists and psychiatrists who are practising these techniques and ultimately bring an end to them through exposing them, as well as disrupting their meetings. The ultimate aim was to prevent religious groups from offering ‘counselling’ which aims to change sexual orientation.”

In a letter to Children of God for Life, PepsiCo`s VP of Global Public Policy, Paul Boykas stated that "Senomyx will not use HEK cells or any other tissues or cell lines derived from human embryos or fetuses for research performed on behalf of PepsiCo."

"We are absolutely thrilled with PepsiCo`s decision," stated Mrs. Vinnedge. "They have listened to their customers and have made both a wise and profound statement of corporate integrity that deserves the utmost respect, admiration and support of the public."

In speaking with Mr. Boykas, Vinnedge noted that the company had conducted internal discussions, recognizing it was a highly sensitive and controversial subject that quite frankly, was not in the best interests of PepsiCo.

"We took the matter very seriously," stated Mr. Boykas. "We have an official Statement on Responsible Research and we intend to live by that policy."

That policy precludes any research by PepsiCo -- or third parties they fund -- from using human tissue or cell lines derived from embryos or fetuses.

The decision means an immediate end to the boycott that began in May 2011-- welcome news to both PepsiCo and their customers who have abstained from their favorite beverages in protest.

"We are grateful to PepsiCo and especially to all those who sent a loud and clear message to the management of this company. It`s incumbent upon us to closely monitor the situation to be sure that PepsiCo remains true to their word," said Brad Mattes, Executive Director of Life Issues Institute, one of thirty five prolife organizations that joined Children of God for Life in the boycott. "There are moral cell lines Senomyx can and should be using -- not just for PepsiCo research but for all their customers."

Senomyx receives royalties for products sold using their ingredients. If they do not use aborted fetal cell lines, they offend no one; if they do, they most certainly offend at least half of US consumers who are prolife. But Children of God for Life also heard from a number of women who stated they were pro choice yet this use of aborted fetal cell lines, crossed the line and angered them as well.

"If for no other reason, it only makes financial sense for both Senomyx and their collaborators to avoid a substantial loss of potential market," Vinnedge said. "Senomyx needs to stop using the aborted fetal cell lines entirely and we will continue to pressure them to do so."

Vinnedge is strongly encouraging the public to take one more important step: write to PepsiCo and thank them -- and then go buy your favorite Pepsi products to celebrate!

"Too often we seem to focus on the negatives and forget to take the time to let others know we appreciate their efforts," stated Vinnedge. "It is our sincere hope that the public will once again rise to the occasion en masse as they did in the boycott -- but this time in appreciation and support of PepsiCo."

Trend towards Christianity among Iranian armed forces on rise

(Christian Telegraph) The Iranian Islamic regime is highly concerned about the growing tendency towards Christianity among Iranians which has now reached the authorities, officials and their family members whether inside or outside the country, reports Iranian Christian news agency, Mohabat News.

Obtained reports and reviews by experts and Iranian Christian news agency, Mohabat News, show that Christianity is growing increasingly among Iranians, especially among the armed forces.

According to Iranian laws, non-Muslims are not allowed to be employed in any armed forces. In addition, it is mentioned in the employment conditions that the employee should believe and have a practical commitment to the Supreme Leader and also should believe in the Islamic Revolution and the regime of the Islamic Republic. The laws state that these conditions are binding. Failure in any one of these conditions can result in the punishment and exile of the violator.

`Legal War` for IRS if Churches Are Attacked for Speaking Out on Issues

(Christian Newswire) "The Internal Revenue Service has no legal right to investigate, let alone threaten or penalize, the Catholic Diocese of Peoria for illegal `electioneering` after Bishop Daniel Jenky, C.S.C. referred to policies of Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin while delivering a robust, wholly legitimate critique of current federal efforts to quash and curtail religious liberties," says Tom Brejcha, President of the Thomas More Society, a public interest Chicago-based law firm. "References to egregious, historic mistakes on the part of political leaders of the past in messages to congregations, even during an election year, are fully protected by the First Amendment, whether those messages are delivered from pulpits or on soapboxes in the public square."

Backing up that message, Brejcha promised to provide free legal counsel and what it believes is a winning defense to any and all religious leaders whose free speech rights are assailed whether by the US government, or at the behest of any partisan political or private group. Brejcha was responding to reports of a complaint just filed with the IRS by Americans United for Separation of Church and State over Bishop Jenky`s comments.  "We think the law is very clear," said Brejcha. "Well-settled Federal law does not prohibit churches and other tax-exempt non-profits from speaking out against government policies at odds with the common good or -- as in this case -- constitutionally obnoxious," said Brejcha. "Where would the Civil Rights movement have been were it not for the courage of those of our religious leaders who spoke truth to power on behalf of the disenfranchised?" Brejcha added.

"When Bishop Jenky said, `...every practicing Catholic must vote, and must vote their Catholic consciences...,` he`s simply telling people that their religious convictions and values matter outside the church walls," said Tom Brejcha.

TMS has successfully faced down the IRS twice recently, first when the Service delayed approval of the Coalition for Life of Iowa`s request for tax-exempt status while IRS was also pressing its pro-life members to refrain from conducting picketing or prayer vigils outside a Planned Parenthood abortion facility in Iowa City. After TMS challenged the IRS`s legal position, the Service`s demands to stop the picketing were suddenly dropped and the Coalition promptly received an official IRS "Determination Letter" granting the requested tax exempt status.

In a second case, where the IRS made highly improper demands for information about prayer vigils conducted by the Christian Voices for Life, and was challenged by TMS, the IRS again backed down.

UK: Job fears for doctors who object to providing sex change ops

(Christian Insitute) Doctors who refuse to provide ‘sex change’ operations could be struck off, under new General Medical Council (GMC) draft guidance.

Section 5 of the guidance states that a doctor may choose to opt out of providing a particular procedure because of personal beliefs and values, but an exception has been made in the area of sex change procedures.

Dr Peter Saunders of the Christian Medical Fellowship, described the guidance as “a clever piece of double-speak”.
