Like traditional marriage? Then dump Starbucks, says NOM

(LifeSiteNews)  Your morning cup of coffee isn’t the only heated thing Starbucks is brewing.

Because of the coffee giant’s aggressive activism in support of the controversial issue of same-sex “marriage,” pro-family advocates have launched a boycott to send a message that Starbucks should keep coffee out of the marriage debate.

The DumpStarbucks campaign was launched by the National Organization for Marriage (NOM) after Kalen Holmes, Starbucks executive vice president, told U.S. partners in January that the Seattle-based company backed Washington state’s same-sex “marriage” legislation as “core to who we are and what we value as a company.”

Pro-life `October Baby` rejected by major studios, blitzes box office

(FoxNews) “The Hunger Games” wasn’t the only film to hit box office paydirt this past weekend. Although it only opened in 390 theaters, the anti-abortion drama “October Baby,” starring John Schneider, earned the second-highest-per-screen average, bringing in almost $2 million in ticket sales.

“October Baby” follows the emotional journey of a young woman who learns that she was almost aborted, but at the last minute was instead given up for adoption. The film almost didn’t see the light of day.

“This film couldn’t find a home, no studio wanted to touch it. It was considered too controversial,” Erwin continued. “There was a real moment of despair at one point, the film wasn’t finished and nobody would take a look at it. But every time we screened it, it attracted such intense emotional reactions. So we had to raise the money ourselves, and the release process took much longer than we wanted.”

Can Religious Freedom Be Saved?

(NRO) The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution announces and protects the freedom of religion: our first liberty. For more than two centuries, this amendment and our nation’s courts have acknowledged this right as one recognized but not created by any government. In other words, from the founding to now, Americans and their leaders have taken “Congress shall make no law” to mean the government is restrained from interfering with internal matters of the church and of religion, including doctrine and rights of conscience.

However, via the HHS abortion-pill and contraceptive mandate, this administration has run roughshod over our first liberty and assigned government the new role of deciding which entities are “religious enough” for First Amendment protections and which aren’t, while decreeing that most private citizens have no say in how they may follow their beliefs.

Parisian pro-lifers don clown garb and unite in massive ‘flashmob’ against euthanasia

(LifeSiteNews) A pro-life event made the national news on French television Saturday evening when “Alliance Vita” organized a giant flashmob against euthanasia on the “Parvis des droits de l’homme” (“Human Rights Square”) at the Trocadéro in Paris. Seven hundred people, young and old, holding red hearts with the slogan “Caring, not killing,”

As things stand a new official bid to make euthanasia legal has been registered with the French Senate whose liberal majority can be counted on to favor anti-life measures. If the left takes over the presidency and the National Assembly in the upcoming elections, legalization of euthanasia could follow quite soon.

Atheists Rally for Reason; Urged to Mock the Religious

(Christian Post) Thousands of atheists showed up at the National Mall Saturday for what they believe will be a game-changing event for secularists. Though the Reason Rally was billed as a celebration of reason and a "coming out" event for atheists, as opposed to an anti-religion one, some viewed it as the latter.

Richard Dawkins, author of the best-selling The God Delusion, was the most anticipated and well-known speaker at the rally.

In his brief address, Dawkins encouraged fellow atheists to ridicule those who claim to be religious.

Chicken sandwiches for family bad, ice cream for same-sex marriage good?

(American Thinker) Ben & Jerry`s ice cream is ubiquitous.  You can buy it in supermarkets, video stores, gas stations, movie theaters, pizza outlets, and ice cream shops around the world.  And besides just making and selling ice cream, Ben and Jerry are often trying to make and sell a point for the left -- namely, that it`s time to redefine marriage worldwide.

And that`s their right, certainly.  In fact, they require all franchise owners to share their political and social view.  Note, however, that you hear nothing but crickets about this while the left and its willing allies in the media relentlessly attack Chick-fil-A for its views about marriage -- views that don`t fit with the left`s agenda.  The hypocrisy is staggeringly obvious.

Supreme Court rules against campus Christian clubs

(AP) The justices on Monday are leaving in place a federal appeals court ruling that found that the policy doesn`t violate the Constitution. The policy says officially recognized campus groups can`t discriminate based on religion or sexual orientation.

A Christian fraternity and a sorority at San Diego State University sued in 2005, arguing that the policy violates their religious freedom. The groups are restricted to Christian members.

There have been several such cases at universities across the country.  In some incidents, homosexuals have complained that although they can attend the Christian clubs, they cannot run for office.

See October Baby this weekend!

(FRC) Can going to a movie save lives? Producer Jon Erwin is counting on it. He and his brother are the driving forces behind a powerful new film in theaters starting tomorrow called October Baby. Inspired by a true story, October Baby centers on Hannah, a college freshman who makes the startling discovery that she`s not only adopted but the survivor of a botched abortion. When Hannah takes a trip to find her birth mom, she ends up on a journey toward forgiveness. "I think it`s time that the unborn have a voice," said Erwin, "and I think that`s what this movie gives them." So far, critics have been pleasantly surprised by the quality of the film, which is a testament to the many years Jon and his brother Andrew have spent in the TV business.

Updated List Identifies Corporate Supporters of Planned Parenthood

(Christian Newswire) Life Decisions International (LDI) has released a revised edition of The Boycott List, which identifies corporations that support Planned Parenthood, the world`s primary abortion-advocacy behemoth.

"As a direct result of the commitment, action and prayers of pro-family people, at least 282 corporations have stopped funding Planned Parenthood," said Kenneth C. Garvey, LDI`s Director of Communications. It is estimated that the boycott has cost Planned Parenthood more than $40 million since the Corporate Funding Project (CFP) began. "This should serve as a testament to those who think it impossible to change corporate behavior."

New boycott targets include Advance Publications (magazines such as Bon Appetit, Details, Glamour, GQ, Self, Vanity Fair, and Vogue), Ameriprise Financial, Arthur Murray (dance studios), Bikram`s Yoga, Bob Evans (restaurants), Danone (Dannon products), Fresh Enterprises (Baja Fresh Mexican Grill, Canyons Burger Co., and La Salsa Fresh Mexican Grill), NACCO (Hamilton Beach and Proctor Silex products; Kitchen Collection and Le Gourmet Chef stores), Pernod Ricard (alcoholic products including Absolute, Ballantine`s, Beefeater, Chivas Regal, Kahlúa, Malibu, and Royal Salute), TD Bank Group, UBS (financial services), and Wyndham (lodging including Baymont, Days Inn, Dream Hotels, Hawthorne, Howard Johnson, Knights Inn, Microtel, Night, Ramada, Super 8, Travelodge, TRYP Hotels, Wingate, and Wyndham; eatery: Planet Hollywood).

Some of the corporations continuing as boycott targets are: Adobe, AOL, Bank of America, Bayer, Chevron, Darden Restaurants (eateries including Olive Garden, Red Lobster, etc.), eBay (PayPal, etc.), Laureate Education, Marriott Hotels, Midas, Nike, Select Comfort (Sleep Number bed), Southwest Airlines (Jet Blue, etc.), Starwood (lodging including Four Points, Sheraton, St. Regis, W, Westin, etc.), Wells Fargo, and Whole Foods.

The Boycott List includes a "Dishonorable Mention" section, which identifies nonprofits that are associated with Planned Parenthood and/or its agenda. The only addition to this section is The Lance Armstrong Foundation. Other groups in the "Dishonorable Mention" section include: AARP, American Cancer Society, Boys & Girls Clubs, Camp Fire, Dr. Phil Foundation, Girl Scouts, Girls Inc., Kiwanis Clubs, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, March of Dimes, Michael J. Fox Foundation, Muscular Dystrophy Association, Ronald McDonald House Charities, Rotary Clubs, Salvation Army, Save the Children, Sierra Club, Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, YMCA, and YWCA.

Garvey said that Planned Parenthood`s most recent annual report shows a decline in corporate support. He said the Corporate Funding Project is due to the tenacity of pro-life people who "understand the power of the dollar and are willing to be inconvenienced for the sake of preborn children."

Currently "celebrating" its 20th Anniversary, Life Decisions International welcomes and thanks the latest organizations to endorse the Corporate Funding Project. Citizens for a Pro-Life Society and Students for Life of America join 34 other pro-life/pro-family organizations endorsing the boycott.

For information about the CFP, including the steps taken before a corporation is placed on The Boycott List and the standards used to place a nonprofit group in the "Dishonorable Mention" section of The Boycott List, please click here.

Life Decisions International (LDI) is dedicated to challenging the Culture of Death, concentrating on exposing and fighting the agenda of Planned Parenthood. LDI`s chief project is a boycott of corporations that fund the abortion-committing giant. To learn more about Planned Parenthood, please click here.

Thousands of homeschoolers, Christians rally against Alberta Education Act over freedom concerns

(LifeSiteNews) This was the second protest in as many weeks by homeschooling families and other concerned Albertans. The protests were organized by the Alberta Home Education Association (AHEA) to express their grave concern over a stipulation in Section 16 that all instructional materials in schools, including home and private schools, “must reflect the diverse nature and heritage of society in Alberta, promote understanding and respect for others and honour and respect the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and the Alberta Human Rights Act.”

The focal point of the protest is the possibility that home and private schools that teach the precepts of their faith could be prosecuted by human rights tribunals for “hate crimes” under the Alberta Human Rights Act (AHRA). The AHRA has been used in the past to prosecute conservatives and Christians, most notably pastor Steve Boissoin, who was found “guilty” by a tribunal of “hate speech” against homosexuals after he published a letter to the editor in a local newspaper. That conviction was subsequently overturned by the court system.

Here’s a group that claims in its own name that it is ‘against defamation,’ but actively defames those with whom it has disagreements. Not one example of hateful or defamatory language is offered as evidence against any of those listed in this report.”

Child sex change ethical?

(OneNewsNow) One Christian pediatrician is raising ethical concerns with parents allowing children who believe they were born the wrong gender to undergo hormone treatments, and later surgery to physically change their gender.

Dr. Norman Spack is director of one of the nation`s first gender-identity medical clinics, located at Children`s Hospital Boston, and he believes labeling children with "gender-identity disorder" a misnomer, based on research that suggests about one in 10,000 children may have brain differences more similar to the opposite sex. But other physicians say it is harmful to put young children through irreversible treatment too early.

Sebelius reiterates Obama: birth control mandate pays for itself because fewer babies are born

(LifeSiteNews) U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius reiterated an argument President Obama offered weeks ago to defend the controversial birth control mandate for religious employers: that no one really pays for birth control because reducing the number of people born will lessen health insurers’ costs in the long run.

As reported by CNS.com, Sebelius gave the remarks during a House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health hearing on Obama’s 2013 budget proposal, where Rep. Tim Murphy (R-Pa.) asked regarding the birth control mandate, “Who pays for it? There’s no such thing as a free service.”

“The reduction in the number of pregnancies compensates for the cost of contraception,” Sebelius replied.

“So you’re saying by not having babies born, we’re going to save money on health care?” Murphy asked, prompting Sebelius to defend contraception as “a critical preventive health benefit for women and for their children.”

Anti-Christian bigotry on ABC

(OneNewsNow)  A pro-family organization says there`s good and bad news when it comes to a new TV show that debuts this weekend on ABC.

One character saying, "I feel certain that the good Lord would like me to have a new fur coat. God often speaks to me through Christian Dior," is reportedly among the cleanest clips from Good Christian Belles, a new television program premiering this Sunday night.

Monica Cole, director of the American Family Association`s OneMillionMoms.com, reports that GCB`sproducers responded to her group`s earlier protest regarding the show`s original title.

October Baby and the Challenge of Christian Film

(Christian Post) Hannah is in college when she receives the shocking news her parents hadn’t ever shared with her—she is adopted. Not only is she adopted, but she is the survivor of a failed abortion. Angry, confused and upset, she turns to her oldest friend Jason to help her through this difficult time. Along with his friends she embarks on a Spring Break road trip that leads her to go looking for her roots. That’s the plot of October Baby, a feature film set to hit theaters in March, and one inspired by the story of Gianna Jessen, an abortion survivor and advocate for the pro-life cause.

Ohio School Shooting Victim`s Mom Forgives Gunman

(Christian Post) The grief-stricken mother of one of the three teens killed in Monday`s shooting spree inside an Ohio high school echoed the words Jesus spoke from the cross as she said she had forgiven the suspected gunman, T.J. Lane, who "didn`t know what he was doing."

"I forgive him because, a lot of times, they don`t know what they`re doing," said Phyllis Ferguson, the mother of 16-year-old Demetrius Hewlin who was pronounced dead in a hospital Tuesday, a day after the shooting incident at Chardon High School.

UNC Wants Christian Club to Let Unbelievers Lead

(Charisma) The University of North Carolina-Greensboro (UNCG) is saying a Christian student club isn’t religious—and because it’s not religious, the “Make Up Your Own Mind” club must allow students from other religious and belief systems to become members and leaders in order to get formal group recognition from the university.

That move led to a federal lawsuit against UNCG. Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) attorneys representing the club filed suit on Wednesday.

“Saying that a Christian club isn’t religious is flatly absurd, especially when the university has granted its belief-based exception to numerous other clubs,” says ADF Legal Counsel Jeremy Tedesco. “The First Amendment forbids the government from determining what is and what is not ‘religious,’ yet the university is doing exactly this by telling a Christian group that it is not religious. The Constitution protects the right of all student groups to employ belief-based criteria in selecting their members and leaders.”

Big Abortion follows Big Tobacco’s business model: target kids

(LifeSiteNews) The tobacco industry does it. And even though ads targeting minors are outlawed, it hasn’t stopped. Tobacco products are still heavily marketed to kids in other ways, such as being placed at a child’s eye level in convenience stores. Why? Tobacco companies know if they can make smoking attractive to youngsters, they have a better chance of gaining customers for life.

Planned Parenthood understands this theory. While abortions aren’t addictive in the same way as tobacco, exposing a young impressionable child to the ease of terminating a pregnancy before her conscience is formed is a good way to achieve one of the most profitable types of sales—repeat business.

(The Hill) George Washington might be hailed as the “father of the country,” but to some lawmakers on Capitol Hill, he hasn’t been getting his due.

TX court: Churches can`t petition government

(OneNewsNow)  An attorney considers it unconstitutional that Christians in El Paso, Texas, could be indicted for their role in the recall of the mayor and two city council members.

Citizens fought back with the referendum process when Mayor John Cook and city council Reps. Susie Byrd and Steve Ortega approved domestic partner benefits, including for homosexuals. Going against voter wishes, the city council again voted for them, which prompted the recall election effort and the involvement of Pastor Tom Brown, president of Word of Life Church, and other Christians (see earlier story).

The efforts were successful, but the Texas Eighth Court of Appeals ruled Friday that the petitions be decertified and that "no election thereon may be called or held."

Toys `R` Us Selling Same-Sex Marriage `Archie` Comics

Select Toys `R` Us stores are now selling `Archie` comic books with a same-sex wedding displayed on the front cover. The front cover reads "Just Married" with two men marrying and one is wearing a service uniform. This comic book is being sold in select stores across the country. One example is the Queensbury, NY location in the upstate New York area.

(One Million Moms)  Toys `R` Us employees do not actually set up the displays; they leave this up to the vendor, but they should be aware of the merchandise being sold in their stores nonetheless. These comic books are sold at the front checkout counters so they are highly visible to employees, managers, customers and children. Unfortunately, children are now being exposed to same-sex marriage in a toy store. This is the last place a parent would expect to be confronted with questions from their children on topics that are too complicated for them to understand. Issues of this nature are being introduced too early and too soon, which is becoming extremely common and unnecessary.

A trip to the toy store turns into a premature discussion on sexual orientation and is completely uncalled for. Toys `R` Us should be more responsible in the products they carry.

TAKE ACTION

Please send Toys `R` Us an email letter requesting they remove all the same-sex "Just Married - Archie" comic books immediately from their shelves.

Facebook`s lopsided censorship

(OneNewsNow) Facebook and a pro-life group are at odds over an alleged incident of censorship.

The social networking site reportedly removed a graphic picture posted by Bryan Kemper, youth outreach director at Priests for Life, that displayed the result of an aborted eight-week-old baby. The photo, obtained from The Center for Bio-ethical Reform, received thousands of "shares" and comments after just a few hours on Facebook. But Kemper soon received a message from Facebook, saying the image of the "fetus torn limb from limb and decapitated" had been removed.

He considers that censorship.

Christian Apologetics Student Group Gains Ground at Universities

(Christian Post) The popularity of a college student group primarily focused on defending their faith in Jesus on university campuses throughout the U.S. and world has increased dramatically in the last year.

While operating in the mostly secular environment of college academia, including students and professors, a Christian apologetics alliance known as Ratio Christi (Latin for "reason of Christ" or the "rationality of Christ") is aggressively seeking and placing apologists on campuses to lead student chapters.

California govt. mailing condoms to teenagers at home in unmarked envelopes

(LifeSiteNews)  The California Department of Public Health has begun a program of providing free condoms by mail to children as young as twelve.

The Condom Access Project (CAP) was rolled out the week of February 14th in Alameda, Sacramento, San Joaquin, Kern and parts of San Francisco counties under the direction of the California Family Health Council. These areas were chosen, according to the STD Control Branch of the Department of Public Health, because of the high rates of pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases and infections among teens in these counties.

Teenagers are directed to a website, TeenSource.org, where, after filling out the request form, they can have a free package of ten condoms along with lubricant and sex-ed literature mailed to their home addresses in a plain yellow envelope.

Fitch drops JC Penney`s credit rating to `junk`

(OneNewsNow) JC Penney`s turnaround plan, which highlights "gay" activist Ellen DeGeneres, took a hit Tuesday when Fitch Ratings dropped its credit grade for the retailer into the "speculative" range -- a range better known as "junk."

Fitch downgraded the department store chain`s default rating from BBB-minus, the last notch on the investment-grade scale, to BB-plus, the highest speculative-grade rating. The drop reflects an increase in risk as the company overhauls its business over the next 12 to 18 months, according to Fitch`s statement.
