Gay history to be taught in California schools, but with no textbooks, how will the law be implemented?

And given a lengthy review process, those textbooks may not make it classroom shelves until 2019. So how will school districts comply?

Christmas in July for Chino Valley Unified School District

(Advocates for Faith and Freedom)  Last month, the school board of the Chino Valley Unified School District approached Advocates with a unique question:

Would it be unconstitutional for the School District to change the term “Winter Break” to “Christmas Break”?  We quickly jumped on the opportunity to respond to this question and effect some positive change in the schools of Chino Valley.  We provided a complete legal analysis on the issue to the school board, giving them a defensible legal position as to why it is certainly alright to start using “Christmas Break.”

I believe that in those cases in which a man can make a credible claim that he is the father of a developing child in utero, in which he could be a proper custodian of that child, and in which he is willing to take full custody of that child upon its delivery, that the pregnant woman involved should not have the option to abort and should be civilly liable, and possibly criminally liable, for psychological suffering and wrongful death should she proceed to do so.

“Gay History” Law Halted By Referendum Drive

(Pacific Justice Institute)  A controversial new law, SB 48, that mandates an emphasis on “lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender” role models in K-12 history and social science curriculum, has been temporarily put on hold.

After SB 48 was signed into law last week by Gov. Jerry Brown, Pacific Justice Institute worked quickly behind the scenes, with several other pro-family organizations to launch the referendum. Papers have been filed with the California Attorney General’s Office. That office is tasked with preparing an official title and summary for the measure, which would allow voters the chance to directly repeal SB 48. A growing coalition of pro-family leaders across the state are supporting the official entity StopSB48.com. Once a title and summary are received from the Attorney General, supporters will have less than 90 days to gather approximately 500,000 valid signatures to place the referendum on the ballot. In the meantime, SB 48 is automatically suspended.

Senate Sets Hearing Date For DOMA Repeal

Testimony for and against the Democrat bill S, 598, entitled the “Respect for Marriage Act,” will commence at 10am (ET) on July 20 and can be viewed live online.

Bruce Hausknecht, judicial analyst for CitizenLink, said the name of the bill is shameful, as the hearing — and the bill being considered — seeks to undermine marriage.

“Although its sponsors pretend that this bill is simply about providing federal rights and benefits for same-sex couples — which by itself would impose a tax burden on all of us,” he said, “the real goal of this bill is to lay the foundation for activist courts to impose same-sex marriage on all 50 states.

“What the sponsors fail to disclose is that this bill doesn’t just repeal the federal definition of marriage. It also repeals the section of DOMA that allows states to decide whether or not out-of-state ‘marriages’ will be recognized. The agenda to force same-sex marriage on America comes through loud and clear.”

Obama completes turnaround on DOMA - asks court to strike down law

(LifeSiteNews) The Obama Administration has now completed a full turn on the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), arguing before the courts that the law is unconstitutional and should be voided.

Obama’s Department of Justice (DoJ) filed papers last Friday in a lawsuit filed by Karen Golinski, an attorney with the 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals, whose partner was denied benefits based on DOMA. The DoJ argues in their brief that the Defense of Marriage Act violates the U.S. Constitution’s guarantees of equal protection.

The DoJ’s entrance into Golinski’s case represents the first case where Obama’s administration has dropped neutrality for active opposition to DOMA.

The DoJ’s 31-page brief asserts that DOMA’s “official legislative record” shows clearly that Section 3 of DOMA, which limits the federal definition of “marriage” to the union of one man and one woman, and “spouse” to indicate a member of the opposite sex, was “motivated in large part by animus toward gay and lesbian individuals and their intimate relationships.”

A Permanent Threat to Religious Freedom

(National Review Online)  Same-sex marriage does not simply include more people in the definition of civil marriage; it labels the natural understanding of marriage as a form of irrational prejudice, ignorance, bigotry, and even hatred. In other words, same-sex-marriage laws teach the public that people who view marriage in the natural way are morally equivalent to racists.

Once this idea is embedded in the law, there will be enormous pressure to take it to its logical conclusion by marginalizing and penalizing people who continue to think marriage is one man and one woman. Some of this pressure will come from state sources and some will come from private sources, but in both cases it will find ways through whatever cracks might exist in protections for religious and moral conscience.
